Colorado Part 2

Our second day in Colorado Springs started early.  We had lots to do!  We went back to the downtown and had breakfast at a little French bakery that we had seen the night before...delicious! And then we headed to catch a train.  The train that takes you to the top of Pike's Peak.  Not gonna lie, I was really excited about it.

This is where the magic begins:
The train finally came.
It was the first weekend of the season that they were going all the way up, so this train ended up being packed.
It's hard to get good pictures from a moving train, but here are a few attempts.
(Please ignore random peoples' hands and reflections of my camera in the window glass)
The best part was when the scenery changed to just sky and snow and rocks, it was beautiful!
I've never seen anything like this.  It was breathtaking. Finally we reached the summit!
This is one of those times when pictures just can't capture the amazing-ness of the real thing.
I normally try not to post too many pictures of myself but I feel like this picture helps communicate how windy and cold it was up there, and how poorly prepared we were for that winter chill.

There are no greater hypochondriacs than nurses...so after taking our pictures and enjoying the views for a few brief moments we began to worry about cyanotic nail beds and the possibility of frostbitten toes, so we took ourselves into the gift shop before hypothermia set in.

Since we didn't see much wildlife on the trip, we decided to take advantage of these photo ops. (The kid in the background photobombed both of our pictures with the giant stuffed sheep. What's with kids wanting to play with toys? Apparently he didn't know that it was our turn!)
Enjoy!

Originally this post was going to include pictures from the cliff dwellings that we went to that afternoon, but since I'm indecisive and couldn't bear to leave out any of these pictures I guess that will be a post for another day.  Stay tuned.
